Latest Update on UK Visa Processing Times from the Home Office
The Home Office has recently updated its guidelines on visa processing times, providing clarity for applicants both inside and outside the UK. Here’s an overview of the latest processing times to help applicants plan accordingly.
Outside the UK
Standard Visitor Visa: The processing time for standard visitor visas is typically up to 3 weeks. Applicants are encouraged to apply well in advance of their travel dates to account for any unforeseen delays.
Student Visa: Student visa applications generally take up to 3 weeks from the date of the biometric appointment. Early application is advised to ensure ample preparation time for the start of studies.
Work Visa: Work visas, including the Skilled Worker visa, usually have a processing time of up to 3 weeks. The Home Office is working to expedite these applications to meet the high demand for skilled workers.
Family Visa: Processing for family visas, such as spousal visas, can take up to 24 weeks. Given the detailed documentation required, applicants should ensure all paperwork is complete to avoid delays.
Inside the UK
Visa Extension or Switching: For those extending their stay or switching to a different visa category within the UK, processing times are typically up to 8 weeks. This applies to work, student, and family visas.
Settlement (Indefinite Leave to Remain): Applications for settlement generally take up to 6 months. However, applicants can use the priority service for faster processing, typically within 5 working days.
Naturalization: The processing time for a naturalization application in the UK is generally up to 6 months from the date of application.
Priority and Super Priority Services
To cater to urgent needs, the Home Office offers priority and super priority services at an additional cost. The priority service aims to process applications within 5 working days, while the super priority service provides a decision by the end of the next working day. Availability varies by visa type and location.
Your visa application may take longer if it needs additional review, more evidence, document verification, an interview, or if there’s increased visa demand. You will be contacted if processing exceeds standard times. If not, please contact UKVI.
